de Bono's Simplicity™

Challenge complexity and discover ways to simplify your procedures, processes and organisational dynamics.

Overview

This workshop will help your organisation if it needs to streamline products and processes to become effective, efficient and user-friendly. It teaches you how to:

  • End unnecessary habits.
  • Stop duplicating tasks.
  • Challenge every aspect of business - to perform at a higher level in all areas.

Simplicity - for deconstructing current processes and putting them back together in an efficient, value-driven way.

"This simple process of focusing on things that are normally taken for granted is a powerful source of creativity." - Edward de Bono.

Who is it for?

Anyone needing to streamline products and processes to improve effectiveness, efficiencies and usability. It is particularly beneficial to the following groups:

  • Technical and non-technical managers.
  • Those who value, or make an effort to see simplicity.

What's it all about?

If your organisation needs to streamline products and processes to become effective, efficient and user-friendly, Simplicity™ will help you accomplish these goals.

This is an instructor-led training event with on-going follow-up plans. You will learn how to activate creative techniques and shift group thinking, like:

  • Shedding.
  • Reframing.
  • Bulk-and-exceptions.
  • Historical review.
  • Challenge mode.

On completion of the workshop, you will be able to apply the tools in your organisation. Time will be saved, energy minimised and stress reduced.

Simplicity does not teach crazytivity - also known as change for change's sake. With Simplicity™, the key question remains - is this really simpler or, does it just appear to be simpler?

The workshop will also teach you how to avoid the dangers of changing a process, or re-designing a new process. Associated dangers might include:

  • Disruption and distractions that interfere with the smooth running of the existing operations.
  • Confusion.
  • The need for resource and time allocation.

What will you get out of it?

There are few things more annoying and frustrating in work than dealing with a piece of complex machinery or a cumbersome process which will not do what you need to be done. From complexity comes stress, anxiety and frustration - even rage - followed by apathy and exit. Simplicity™ tackles issues like this head on and allows you to use the minimum to deliver value. You will save time, energy and needless stress - amongst your customers, vendors, and employees.

What will your organisation get out of it?

Simplicity™, created by Dr. Edward de Bono, is for organisations looking to uncomplicate their business processes and thus, their lives.

As well as positive employees with more time and energy organisations can expect increased:

  • Efficiency and value from deconstructing, and then improving current processes.
  • Return on investment.
  • Customer and employee satisfaction.
  • Innovation.

The workshop also investigates change for change's sake and the dangers and disruptions of changing a process.

Typical workshop content

Moving from complex to simple is the name of the game. By applying the techniques you will add value to your organistation. Simplicity™ is not merely about cost cutting, but as much about adding value by reducing complexity.

Key areas within the simplicity process include:

Targeting an area.

Defining the objectives:

  • What are we trying to achieve,
  • What is the value of the package,
  • What is the concept?

Applying processes:

  • Replacement,
  • Restructuring,
  • Taking a very broad or narrow view.

Assessing the changes:

  • Will our ideas work,
  • Do they make things simpler,
  • Do they deliver all the values,
  • Will the changes be accepted?

Implementation:

  • Who?
  • What?
  • By when?
